Summary of Climate Smart Small Scale Infrastructure Works of Exotica Homes Ltd 

Exotica Homes Ltd (EHL) is a sister concern of Exotica Group which has businesses in multi sectors including, construction of private and public building infrastructures, supply of construction materials and equipment as necessary under contract scopes, hotel and tourism and agro-based production and processing sector. The oldest firm of the Exotica group, Tasnuva Enterprise, was established in 1992 as first-class civil contractor and supplier. Exotica Homes Ltd was established in 2012 and gradually formed into a conglomerate through establishment of other sister firms.

Exotica generates innovative ideas to better utilize space, energy and natural ventilation, and skylight in our residential buildings. In this land scarce country, our endeavor is to address housing needs of city dwellers through maximizing utilization of natural resources. Exotica always works in compliance with the national building code and prevailing laws of national regulatory authorities, including required emergency safety design and equipment. Exotica Homes Ltd is a member of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and enlisted with RAJUK.

Exotica has also endeavored to engage in small-scale infrastructure such as pro-poor and rural-friendly housing, eco-friendly structures for tourism and community people living within the settlements of ecologically significant areas in Bangladesh. In this connection, Exotica in partnership with Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRS), a national Non-Profit Organization in Bangladesh, and Natural Conservation Management (NACOM), another NGO in Bangladesh had performed several projects in three important Ecologically Critical Areas (ECA), Hakaluki Haor site, Sundarbans and in Cox’s Bazar peninsula. Exotica completed below small-scale eco-friendly and climate smart infrastructure projects with development partners and government agencies:

  • Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests; Director General, Department of Environment visiting VCC and Watch Tower in Cox’s Bazar in 2017.

    Village Conservation Center (VCC)

    EHL constructed 6 VCCs in different locations of Hakaluki Haor and 3 VCCs in Cox’s Bazar, Ukhia and Teknaf under Cox’s Bazar Teknaf peninsula ECA for village conservation groups. Project: Community Based Adaptation in the Ecologically Critical Areas (CBA ECA). Funding agency: UNDP

    WATCH TOWER

    Total 5 watch towers of 40-feet height RCC structure were constructed in the same locations of Hakaluki haor and Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula to boost up eco conservation by the village conservation groups under CBA ECA.

  • Solar Irrigation Facilities

    Solar Irrigation Facilities

    EHL installed 3 solar irrigation facilities at the off-grid locations of Hakaluki haor to irrigate rice fields during Robi cropping season under CBA ECA.
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
  • Eco Cottage

    Eco Cottage

    3 eco cottages were made with locally available materials at coastal upazila adjacent to Sundarbans under Sundarban Management Project (SMP II)

  • Restoration of canal and wetland

    Restoration of canal and wetland

    more than 10 km of canals were rehabilitated through re-excavation for biodiversity conservation and restoration in Hakaluki Haor and to restore freshwater flow in the canal in Munshiganj under Shymnagar upazila of Satkhira district.

  • Pond Sand Filter (PSF) and desalination plant

    Pond Sand Filter (PSF) and desalination plant

    Pond Sand Filter (PSF) and desalination plant was installed in the saline prone Mongla (Sundarbans) as drinking water solution.

  • Wash Stations

    Wash Stations

    48 wash stations were installed in various populated locations in and around Sundarbans under COVID-19 response activities of SMP II.
